History and origin
Initially, the blue mineral was called "caillais", which means "pretty stone" in Persian. In the 16th century, the French named this stone La pierre turque (in old French "turquois"). At the time, Turkey was the largest quarrying region for this stone. Among Tibetan Buddhist monks, Turquoise symbolises the balance between material and spiritual wealth.
