Description
Ibuprofen belongs to a group of medicines called nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs). These drugs work by changing the way the body responds to pain, inflammation and high body temperature.
IBUPROFENE BIOGARAN CONSEIL 200 mg, oral suspension in sachet sweetened with liquid maltitol, is used for the short-term treatment of mild to moderate pain such as headache, toothache, painful periods, fever and pain associated with colds and has the flu.
In addition, IBUPROFENE BIOGARAN CONSEIL 200 mg, oral suspension in sachet sweetened with liquid maltitol, is also used, on medical advice, to relieve postoperative pain.
IBUPROFENE BIOGARAN CONSEIL 200 mg, oral suspension in sachet sweetened with liquid maltitol is intended for adults, adolescents and children from 20 kg (aged 6 years and over).
Using advice
Adults and adolescents from 40 kg (aged 12 years and over)
The initial dose is 1 or 2 sachets of IBUPROFENE BIOGARAN CONSEIL 200 mg, oral suspension in sachet sweetened with liquid maltitol and subsequently, if necessary, 1 or 2 sachets of IBUPROFENE BIOGARAN CONSEIL 200 mg, oral suspension in sachet sweetened with liquid maltitol, every six hours.
Wait at least 6 hours between two doses.
Do not take more than 6 sachets of IBUPROFENE BIOGARAN CONSEIL 200 mg, oral suspension in sachet sweetened with liquid maltitol per day. Children weighing 20 to 39 kg (aged 6 to 11 years)
IBUPROFENE BIOGARAN CONSEIL 200 mg, oral suspension in sachet sweetened with liquid maltitol should only be used in children weighing at least 20 kg. The maximum total daily dose of ibuprofen is 20-30 mg per kg of body weight divided into 3 or 4 single doses.
The dosage for children 6 to 11 years old is calculated as follows based on their body weight:
· Children from 20 to 39 kg: take 1 sachet of IBUPROFENE BIOGARAN CONSEIL 200 mg, oral suspension in sachet sweetened with liquid maltitol up to three times a day as needed. Do not take more than 3 sachets (up to 600 mg ibuprofen) per day. Wait at least 8 hours between two doses.
· Children from 30 to 39 kg: take 1 sachet of IBUPROFENE BIOGARAN CONSEIL 200 mg, oral suspension in sachet sweetened with liquid maltitol up to four times a day as needed. Do not take more than 4 sachets (up to 800 mg ibuprofen) per day. Wait at least 6 to 8 hours between two doses.
In children aged 6 years and over and in adolescents, a doctor should be consulted if this medicine is needed for more than 3 days or if symptoms worsen.
Children under 20 kg (under 6 years old)
IBUPROFENE BIOGARAN CONSEIL 200 mg, oral suspension in sachet sweetened with liquid maltitol is not intended for children under 20 kg or under 6 years of age.
Composition
The active substance is:

· The other ingredients are: Sodium benzoate (E211); anhydrous citric acid (E330); sodium citrate dihydrate (E331); anhydrous sodium saccharin (E954); sodium chloride; hypromellose 15 cP; xanthan gum (E415); liquid maltitol (E965); glycerol 99.8% (E422); strawberry flavor (strawberry flavor contains: substances identical to natural flavors, preparations with natural flavors, corn maltodextrin, ethyl citrate (E-1505), propylene glycol (E-1520) and benzyl alcohol); purified water.
Precautions for use
Side effects may be less severe by using the lower effective dose for the shortest duration.
Prolonged use of any type of pain reliever for headaches can make them worse. In this situation, seek advice from your doctor and stop treatment with IBUPROFENE BIOGARAN CONSEIL 200 mg, oral suspension in sachet sweetened with liquid maltitol.
In general, regular use (of several kinds) of pain relievers can cause serious, long-lasting kidney problems. This risk may be increased with physical exertion associated with loss of salt and dehydration. This situation should therefore be avoided.
Difficulty breathing may occur in people with or with a history of asthma or allergies.
If you suffer from hay fever, nasal polyps or chronic obstructive airways disease, there is an increased risk of allergic reactions. These allergic reactions can present as asthma attacks (called analgesic asthma), angioedema or hives.
Pregnancy and breast feeding
If you are pregnant or breast-feeding, think you may be pregnant or are planning to have a baby, ask your doctor or pharmacist for advice before taking this medicine.
Pregnancy
Tell your doctor if you become pregnant while taking IBUPROFENE BIOGARAN CONSEIL 200 mg, oral suspension in sachet sweetened with liquid maltitol.
During the first and second trimester of pregnancy, your doctor will only prescribe ibuprofen if it is absolutely necessary. If this is the case, the dose should be as low as possible and the duration of treatment as short as possible.
During the last 3 months of pregnancy, you should NEVER take this medicine because ibuprofen can have serious or even fatal effects on your child's heart and kidneys, even with just one administration.
Feeding with milk
Only small amounts of ibuprofen and its breakdown products pass into breast milk. Since no harmful effects on infants are known to date, it is generally not necessary to discontinue breast-feeding during short-term use of ibuprofen at the recommended doses.
