Indication This is an anti-septic containing iodine for: - an anti-septic for superficial and small cuts and burns. - local treatment to clean skin and mucous infections. - an anti-septic for skin that will be operated on. How to take this drug Local use. Dosage Use in its pure state or diluted. Pure: applied onto the skin. Diluted: - washing cuts: dilute 1/10th with water or sterile physiological serum (1 volume of solution with 10 volumes of water or serum). - irrigation of cuts: dilute 2% in sterile physiological serum (2 volumes of solution with 100 volumes of water or serum). Composition Iode Povidone: 10 g Per 100ml. Other ingredients: Glycerol, macrogol lauric ether (9), disodium phosphate dihydrate, citric acid monohydrate, sodium hydroxide, purified water. Format 125 ml vial. Precautions for use Children under 30 months need medical consent. IF IN DOUBT DO NOT HESITATE TO CONSULT YOUR DOCTOR OR PHARMACIST FOR ADVICE. Special warnings: Iodine soaks into the sink especially after repeated use or on delicate skin and passes into the blood (side effects). Patients with renal insufficiency need take particular attention on damaged skin. When preparing for an operation, avoid dripping the solution between the body and table sheet. Prolonged contact with the solution can cause irritations and rare cases of skin reactions such as burns. Contraindications Do not use this medication in the following cases: - repeated use from the 2nd trimester of pregnancy as well as during breast-feeding - on newborns under 1 month old - for disinfecting of medical and surgical equipment - previous allergy to one of the ingredients such as povidone. There are no cross-over reactions with iodine products. Reactions of intolerance (anaphylactoid reactions) to iodinated contrast products or anaphylaxis to seafood are not a contraindication to use. This drug should not be taken during the first trimester of pregnancy unless with doctor’s consent. Interactions with other drugs Avoid taking different anti-septic treatments at the same time. Pregnancy and breast feeding Pregnancy: Due to the iodine content in this medication and repeated use, it is not recommended to use this in the last 6 months of pregnancy. This drug can only be used during pregnancy following advice from your doctor. Breast feeding: Breast-feeding is not advisable when using this medication. Consult your doctor or pharmacist before taking any drugs. Side effects Like all drugs BETADINE DERMAL 10% solution can cause side effects (this will not affect everyone): Repeated and prolonged use of this medication can change the functioning of the thyroid gland especially among premature babies and newborns. Local skin reactions can occur: burning, eczema. Possible skin irritations and local allergic reactions. Reversible skin colouration. Exceptional cases of allergic reactions: urticaria, angioedema, anaphylactic shock, anaphylactoid reaction. General effects can occur if treating large surfaces on patients with renal insufficiency. If you notice side effects that are not mentioned here, or if certain side effects become more severe, please consult your doctor or pharmacist. Instructions in case of overdose Immediately contact your doctor if large oral ingestion. Storage conditions Keep away from direct heat.
