Therapeutic Indications Omacor soft capsules are a member of a class of medicines formulated to reduce cholesterol and triglycerides in the blood. They can be used: – to supplement other medicines following a heart attack (myocardial infarction); and – to treat certain forms of hypertriglyceridemia (excessive levels of fat in the blood), when dietary modification has proven insufficient. Directions for Use Method of AdministrationFor oral use. Swallow capsules whole with a glass of water. To reduce the risk of digestive difficulties, take capsules with food. Dosage– Following a heart attack: Take 1 capsule a day. – To reduce blood-triglyceride levels: Take 2 capsules a day. Your doctor can increase the prescribed dose to 4 capsules a day if 2 are insufficient. Do not exceed the dosage prescribed by your doctor. If in doubt, consult your doctor or pharmacist. Length of TreatmentTo be decided by your doctor. Ingredients Per capsule: Active IngredientsOmega-3 acid ethyl esters (90%): 1000 mg – of which eicosapentaenoic acid (EPA; 46%) and docosahexaenoic acid (DHA; 38%) ethyl esters: 840 mg – of which α-tocopherol (antioxidant)*: 4 mg *May be mixed with soybean oil. Precautions for Use Use with caution if: – you are soon to undergo surgery, or have recently undergone surgery; – you have recently suffered an injury; – you have kidney problems; – you have uncontrolled diabetes; or – you have liver problems. Your doctor can run blood tests to monitor the effects of this medicine on your liver. If you are affected by any of the above, consult your doctor or pharmacist before using this medicine. Use by the ElderlyUse with caution if you are over 70. Use by ChildrenUse of this medicine is not recommended. Contra-indications Do NOT use if: – you are allergic to the active ingredient or any of this medicine's other ingredients (read the label carefully).
