Product Description Created by Ipsen Pharma, Forlax can be used in the symptomatic treatment of constipation in children aged between 6 months and 8 years. This medicine is a soluble powder. Dissolve in a glass of water and give to drink. Forlax generally takes effect 24 to 48 hours after ingestion. Medicinal constipation relief should be supplemented by positive changes in diet and lifestyle. A combination of diet and lifestyle modification is necessary to maintain healthy digestion. Do NOT over-use with children. Before you give this medicine to your child for the first time, verify that their constipation does not have any natural causes. Consult your doctor or pharmacist for advice. How to Use Method of Administration Dissolve contents of sachet in at least 50 ml of water and give to your child to drink immediately. If your child requires only 1 sachet per day for constipation relief, give them Forlax in the morning. If more than 1 sachet is necessary, give it to them in the morning and evening. For children over 1 year, the daily amount should be adjusted to achieve the desired effect. Dosage Dependent on child's age. Between 6 and 12 months: 1 sachet per day. Between 1 and 4 years: 1 or 2 sachets per day. Between 4 and 8 years: 2 to 4 sachets per day. Note: – Forlax generally takes effect 24 to 48 hours after ingestion. – Children should not take this medicine for more than 3 months. – After taking Forlax, your child can maintain healthy digestion with positive dietary and lifestyle changes. – It is important to drink plenty of liquids (water and low-sugar drinks), eat plenty of fibre and exercise regularly. – If symptoms persist or worsen, consult your doctor or pharmacist. Length of Treatment Children should not take this medicine for more than 3 months. Ingredients Macrogol 4000 (4 g per sachet) Saccharin (E954), orange and grapefruit flavour (containing orange and grapefruit essential oils, orange juice concentrate, citral, acetaldehyde, linalool, ethyl butyrate, alpha-Terpineol, octanal, beta gamma hexenol, maltodextrin, gum arabic, sorbitol (E420), butylated hydroxyanisole (E320), sulphur dioxide (E220) Packaging Forlax is an anhydride powder (with an orange and grapefruit taste and scent) for reconstitution as a drinkable solution. It is sold in packs of 20 sachets. Note that not all packaging sizes may be available. Precautions for Use Very rarely, allergic reaction or urticaria (hives), which cause rash or swelling of the face, has been reported in adults taking medicines containing macrogol (a form of polyethylene glycol). Isolated cases of severe allergic reaction (in the form of anaphylactic shock) resulting in loss of consciousness or faintness (or feelings of faintness) have also been reported. If your child exhibits any of these symptoms, seek urgent medical advice. Consult your doctor or pharmacist prior to use if you child: – has impaired kidney or liver function; or – is taking diuretics (medicines that promote urine evacuation) due to a risk of drop in blood-sodium (salt) or blood-potassium level. Excessive dose can result in adverse effects such as diarrhoea (liquid stools) and dehydration. This is a medicine. Keep out of reach of children. Contra-indications Do NOT use if your child: – is allergic or hypersensitive to macrogol (polyethylene glycol) or any of this medicine's other ingredients; – has an illness such as severe bowel disease; – has an inflammatory bowel disease (e.g. ulcerative colitis or Crohn's disease); – has a gastro-intestinal perforation, or is at risk of suffering a gastro-intestinal perforation; – may have an intestinal blockage; or – is experiencing abdominal pain of undetermined cause.
