Product Description For symptomatic treatment of constipation. Dosage 1 sachet either before or after each of the 3 daily main meals. Once drunk, the solution requires 1 to 2 hours to take effect. Frequency of Doses Length of treatment varies depending on symptoms. Ingredients Active Ingredient: Per single-dose sachet: Ispaghula (seed tegument) 2.1430 g Other Ingredients: Anhydrous citric acid, sodium bicarbonate, sodium saccharin, dry mandarin flavour, Sunset Yellow FCF, sucrose Precautions for Use – If your colon function changes, or you are bedridden, use with caution due to the risk of fecaloma. – Ensure that the powder is diluted in a sufficient quantity of water before drinking. – Contains sodium (120 mg per single-dose sachet). Use with caution if you are on a strict low-salt diet. – If in doubt, ask your doctor or pharmacist. Warnings– Do not use for more than 8 days unless instructed by your doctor. – Contains sucrose. Do not use if you are fructose-intolerant, or have glucose-galactose malabsorption or a sucrase-isomaltase deficiency (these are rare, inherited disorders). Occasional Constipation Infrequent bouts of constipation may be caused by recent changes in scenery (e.g. because you've been travelling). Medication can be useful if used for a brief period. Recent constipation that cannot be explained by lifestyle changes, or which is accompanied by pain, fever or bloating, should be checked by your doctor. Chronic Constipation Persistent constipation may be caused by: – bowel disease, which must be checked by a doctor; or – an upset in regular bowel function due to changes in diet and/or lifestyle. Possible treatments include: – eating more plant and plant-based foods (e.g. fresh and raw vegetables, wholemeal bread and fruit); – drinking more water and fruit juice; – getting more physical exercise (e.g. by walking or playing sport); – re-training the defecation reflex; and – (in some cases), playing sounds while eating and drinking. Constipation in Children Treatment of constipation in children focuses on lifestyle and dietary modification – in particular, adding the correct quantity of water to baby milk, preparing food rich in plant products and supplementing the diet with fruit juice. Contra-indications Do NOT use if you: – have certain intestinal diseases (e.g. colitis, Crohn's disease and intestinal blockage); – have abdominal pain or fecaloma (hardened waste that is impossible to pass). – If in doubt, ask your doctor or pharmacist. Pregnancy and Breast-Feeding– If you are pregnant, do NOT use this medicine unless recommended by your doctor. – If, while using this medicine, you discover that you are pregnant, consult your doctor – only they are qualified to decide whether or not you should continue the treatment.
