Java lemongrass essential oil is recognizable by its lemony and slightly peppery smell. Originally from Indonesia, it also grows in China, Vietnam, Nepal and in different regions of Africa or the West Indies.

Main properties
It is, above all, a natural mosquito repellent, and is often planted for this purpose around houses. It also relieves stings, is anti-infectious, antibacterial, antifungal and anti-inflammatory, and can be used against ENT infections. (angina, aphonia for example), but also to relieve tendonitis or rheumatic pain.

How to use
Repelling mosquitoes or purifying the air: Atmospheric diffusion. Sprays on clothes, tablecloths, non-covered skin (hands, arms, ankles, feet...)
Mosquito Repellent: Diffusion: 25 drops of citronella EO + 25 drops of geranium EO + 15 drops of exotic verbena EO in the diffuser.
In case of mosquito bites : Dermal application: 1 drop on each bite.
Colitis: Massage: 5 drops of citronella EO + 2 drops of basil EO in 15ml of apricot kernel vegetable oil. Apply onto the affected area in gentle circular motions, twice per day for 2-3 days.
Other very good uses : Rheumatisms, pains of the musculoskeletal system (linked to sport, tendonitis...) Massage (gently) onto the affected areas with the vegetable oil mixture (preferably St John’s Wort) + 10% of citronella (2 drops of citronella for 20 drops of St John’s Wort).
Other use
2 drops of citronella provide a fresh and Asian flavour to dishes made with chicken, shrimp, rice or coconut.
Contraindication
Ceylan citronella (Cymbopogon nardus), citronella from the Indies or verbena (Cymbopogon citratus), palmarosa (Cymbopogon martinii du Vietnam) do not have the same properties. Do not confuse them with each other! Like all essential oils the citronella oil is not allowed during the first 3 months of pregnancy. It is also not to be used during breast feeding.
