Roman Chamomile essential oil is recognizable by its typical, pleasant and spicy smell exhaled by its flowers. Roman (or noble) chamomile thrives in the temperate regions of Europe, and particularly in France, where Maine-et-Loire cultivates around 90 hectares of it. It appreciates siliceous soils and its flower heads are picked one by one from July to September.

Botanical information

Chamaemelum nobilis Family: Asteraceae Origin: Europe Producer organ: flowering tops Chemotype: isobutyl angelate, isoamyl angelate

Main properties

It is above all used as a tranquilizer, in children and adults, because it soothes tension, calms anxiety and nervous shocks and promotes sleep. It also acts on migraines and neuralgia, and is recommended for the skin (skin conditions, razor burn, erythema or cuts) but also for the digestive system (slow digestion, flatulence, bloating) and in the fight against allergic rhinitis (hay fever).

Main indications

Stress, anxiety, fear, insomnia (especially for obsessional thoughts) Shock, stage fright, fear of a scheduled surgical operation. Stomach or head ache: bloating, nausea, neuralgia, all “colitis” type pain.

How to use

Nervous problems, pain linked to stress: Apply some pure drops along the spine, under the arch of the foot, solar plexus and on the inside of the wrists. You can also pour 2 drops of camomile oil in a teaspoon of vegetable oil (for example arnica, st john’s wort or sweet almond) and massage onto the painful area (neck, lower back, stomach...).

Stomach ache, indigestion: Apply as explained above (nervous problems) + Swallow 1 pure drop put under the tongue after each meal.

Other very good uses Eczema, psoriasis, blemishes linked to stress, sensitive skin. Dental pain (linked to growth of a tooth) Skin: Dermal application: 1-2 drops onto the irritated area, pure if small area, mixed with vegetable oil if larger area. To numb the pain from teeth coming through: Mix 1 drops of camomile with 2 drop of st john’s wort vegetable oil and apply onto the gums.

Other uses : Roman camomile instantly calms the razor burn.
