Niaouli essential oil has a strong scent with a hint of eucalyptus. The soft, light bark of this tree similar to the eucalyptus, native to New Caledonia and Australia, is easily torn off, like paper, hence its nickname of "skinned" tree. The tree is exploited in New Caledonia and especially in Madagascar.
