OMEPRAZOLE BIOGARAN CONSEIL 20 mg, gastro-resistant capsule contains the active substance omeprazole. It belongs to the class of medicines called proton pump inhibitors. It reduces the amount of acid produced by your stomach.
Therapeutic indications
OMEPRAZOLE BIOGARAN CONSEIL 20 mg, gastro-resistant capsule is used in adults for the short-term treatment of symptoms of reflux (e.g. heartburn, acid regurgitation).
Reflux is the backflow of acid from the stomach into the oesophagus, making it inflamed and painful. This can cause symptoms such as a painful burning sensation in the chest that goes up to the throat (heartburn) and a sour taste in the mouth (acid regurgitation).
It may be necessary to take the capsules for 2-3 consecutive days to achieve improvement in symptoms.
Contraindications
Never take OMEPRAZOLE BIOGARAN CONSEIL 20 mg gastro-resistant capsule:
- If you are allergic (hypersensitive) to omeprazole or any of the other ingredients in OMEPRAZOLE BIOGARAN CONSEIL 20 mg Gastro-resistant capsule.
- If you are taking medicines containing nelfinavir (used for HIV). IF IN DOUBT, ASK YOUR DOCTOR OR PHARMACIST FOR ADVICE.
Precautions for use; special warnings
Take caution with OMEPRAZOLE BIOGARAN CONSEIL 20 mg gastro-resistant capsule: Do not take OMEPRAZOLE BIOGARAN CONSEIL 20 mg gastro-resistant capsule for more than 14 days without consulting a doctor.
If you get no relief or if your symptoms get worse, see your doctor.
OMEPRAZOLE BIOGARAN CONSEIL 20 mg Gastro-resistant capsule may mask the symptoms of other diseases. Therefore, if you notice any of the following symptoms before taking OMEPRAZOLE BIOGARAN CONSEIL 20 mg Gastro-resistant capsule or during treatment with OMEPRAZOLE BIOGARAN CONSEIL 20 mg Gastro-resistant capsule, consult your doctor immediately:
- You lose weight for no reason or if you have problems swallowing.
- You have stomach pain or indigestion.
- You vomit food or blood.
- You have black (blood-tinged) stools.
- You have had a previous stomach ulcer or gastrointestinal surgery.
- You have been under continuous symptomatic treatment for indigestion or heartburn for 4 weeks or more.
- You have had continuous indigestion or heartburn for 4 weeks or more.
- You have jaundice or severe liver disease.
- You are over 55 years of age with new or recently changed symptoms.
Patients should not take omeprazole as a preventive treatment. The use of this medicine is not recommended in patients with fructose intolerance, glucose-galactose malabsorption syndrome or sucrase/isomaltase deficiency (rare hereditary diseases).

If you are pregnant or likely to become pregnant, tell your doctor before taking OMEPRAZOLE BIOGARAN CONSEIL 20 mg gastro-resistant capsule. Your doctor will decide if you can take OMEPRAZOLE BIOGARAN CONSEIL 20 mg Gastro-resistant Capsule during this period.
Dosage, Method and/or route of administration, Frequency of administration and Duration of treatment
The usual dose is one 20 mg capsule once daily for 14 days. Once the symptoms have completely disappeared, treatment should be stopped. If your symptoms persist after 2 weeks of continuous treatment, consult your doctor. It may be necessary to take the capsules for 2 to 3 consecutive days to achieve relief of symptoms.
How to take - It is recommended that you take your capsules in the morning - You can take your capsules with a meal or on an empty stomach - The capsules should be swallowed whole with half a glass of water. The capsules should not be chewed or crunched as they contain micro-granules which prevent the medicine from being destroyed by stomach acid. It is important not to damage the granules in the capsules. These micro-granules contain the active substance omeprazole and are gastro-resistant, which protects them from being broken down as they pass through the stomach. The granules release the active substance into the intestine where it is absorbed by your body to produce its effect. If you have difficulty swallowing the capsules : - open them and disperse the contents in a spoonful of water or a glass of water (non-carbonated water), slightly acidic fruit juice (orange juice, apple or pineapple) or applesauce. - Always stir before drinking the mixture (the mixture will not be homogeneous). Then drink the mixture immediately or within 30 minutes. - Make sure you have drunk all the medicine, rinse the glass well with half a glass of water and drink it. Do not use milk or carbonated water. The solid pieces contain the medicine, do not chew or crunch them.
Symptoms and instructions in case of overdose If you have taken more OMEPRAZOLE BIOGARAN CONSEIL 20 mg gastro-resistant capsule than you should have, tell your doctor or pharmacist immediately.
If you forget to take or give OMEPRAZOLE BIOGARAN CONSEIL 20 mg gastro-resistant capsule: If you forget to take a dose, take it as soon as you remember. However, if you are close to taking your next dose, do not take the dose you missed. Do not take a double dose to make up for the one you missed.
