Indication Gaviscon Syrup is treatment for gastro-oesophageal reflux with heartburn (pyrosis), and acid reflex. How to take this drug Gaviscon Syrup is to be taken orally. Shake well before opening. Dosage 2 teaspoons 3 times per day after each of the three main meals, and maybe at bedtime. This dosage can be doubled if you are suffering from severe oesophageal reflux or inflammation. Composition Ingredient Composition per 100ml Sodium bicarbonate 2.67g Sodium alginate 5g The sodium strength is 1.45g (63mEq) per 100ml. Other ingredients: Calcium carbonate, carbomer, sodium saccharine, fennel aroma*, sodium hydroxide, propyl parahydroxybenzoate (E216), methyl parahydroxybenzoate (E218), purified water. *Composition of the fennel aroma: fennel anethol, benzylic alcohol. Format This drug is in the form of a drinkable solution. Interaction with other drugs The anti-acids interact with other medications taking orally. Precautions of use with other combinations Drugs taken simultaneously can reduce the absorption effect. For precautionary measures it is recommended to take anti-acids at different times of other drugs. Take this medication with a 2 hour gap from the following: - Antibacterials-TB (Ethambutol, isoniazid) - Antibacterials - Tetracyclines - Antibacterials - lincosanides - Antihistamine H2 - Atenolol, metoprolol, propranolol - Chloroquine - Diflunisal - Digoxin - Disphosphonates - Sodium fluoride - Glucocorticoids (described for prednisolone and dexamethasone) - Indomethacin - Kayexalate - Ketoconazole - Lanzoprazole - Phenothiazinic neuroleptics - Penicillamine - Iron (salts) - Sparfloxacine Take this medication with a 4 hour gap from the following: - Antibacterials - Fluoroquinolones Combinations to be aware of - Salicylates: Increase in renal excretion by aspirin by alkalising urine. Precautions for use KEEP OUT OF REACH FROM CHILDREN. This drug contains Methyl parahydroxybenzoate and Propyl parahydroxybenzoate and can cause allergic reactions. consult your doctor before taking any medication if you are on a low sodium diet or suffer from cardiac insufficiency. This drug contains sodium. This medication contains 145 mg of sodium per 100ml. Patients should take into account their sodium intake.
