Description
History and origin
The name Amethyst comes from the Latin amethystus, meaning "one who is not drunk". The Romans used to cut wine goblets from amethyst, which gave the water poured into them the colour of wine, while of course preventing drunkenness! The world's largest deposits are in Brazil. Amethyst is also found in Uruguay and the USA.
