History and origin
The name "moonstone" is derived from the appearance of this stone, which has shimmering reflections reminiscent of the glow of the moon. These reflections are caused by an optical phenomenon known as adularescence, which is created by the reflection of light inside the stone. In Hindu culture, moonstone is considered sacred and is associated with the moon goddess, Chandra. The world's main deposits are located in India, Sri Lanka and Tanzania.
