Therapeutic indications
This medication is indicated in adults (from 15 years of age) to treat temporary nausea and vomiting (no longer than 2 days) and not accompanied by fever and also to prevent and treat motion sickness. It comes in the form of capsules, in boxes of 14 capsules.
Contraindications
Do not take NAUSICALM ADULTS 50 mg hard capsules in the following cases:
- certain forms of glaucoma (increased pressure in the eye),
- difficulty urinating of prostatic or other origin,
- known allergy to antihistamines (products intended to treat certain allergies).
This medicine should generally not be used, unless your doctor tells you otherwise, if you are breast-feeding. In case of doubt, it is essential to seek the advice of your doctor or pharmacist.
Precautions for use
This medicine contains sucrose. Its use is not recommended in patients with intolerance to sucrose (a rare hereditary disease).
- As a precaution, do not use this medication in cases of bronchial asthma.
- In the event of long-term liver or kidney disease, consult your doctor so that he can adjust the dosage.
- Taking this medication requires medical advice in the elderly: * predisposed to constipation, dizziness or drowsiness, * with prostate problems.
Tell your doctor before taking this antihistamine.
- This medication may cause drowsiness increased by alcohol: refrain from alcoholic beverages or medication containing alcohol for the duration of treatment. In case of doubt, it is essential to seek the advice of your doctor or pharmacist.
Interactions with other drugs
If you are taking or have recently taken any other medicines, including medicines obtained without a prescription, talk to your doctor or pharmacist. This medication contains an antihistamine, dimenhydrinate. Other medicines contain it. Do not combine them so as not to exceed the maximum recommended dose.
Pregnancy - breastfeeding
This medicine will only be used during pregnancy on the advice of your doctor. If you discover that you are pregnant during treatment, consult your doctor as only he can judge the need for continued treatment. At the end of pregnancy, this medicine can cause harmful effects in the newborn baby. Therefore, you should always seek the advice of your doctor before using it and never exceed the recommended dosage. This drug passes into breast milk, its intake is not recommended in case of breastfeeding. Ask your doctor or pharmacist for advice before taking any medicine.
Driving and using machines
Vehicle drivers, beware! The drowsiness and decreased alertness associated with the use of this medication can be severe and make driving and using machines dangerous. This phenomenon is accentuated by the intake of alcoholic beverages or drugs containing alcohol, which should therefore be avoided.
Dosage, method of administration
FOR ADULTS ONLY (from 15 years old). 1 to 2 capsules every 6 to 8 hours without exceeding 8 capsules per day.
Oral route: absorb the capsules preferably with a glass of water or a hot drink.
Frequency of administration, duration of treatment
If you are taking NAUSICALM to prevent motion sickness, take it half an hour before departure. During the trip, it may be taken again, without exceeding the maximum recommended doses.
If you are taking NAUSICALM to treat nausea and vomiting without fever, do not exceed 2 days of treatment. If the disorders persist beyond 2 days, medical advice is necessary.
Possible side effects
Like all medicines, NAUSICALM ADULTS 50 mg hard capsules can cause side effects, although not everybody gets them:
- Certain side effects require IMMEDIATELY STOPPING THE TREATMENT AND TELL A DOCTOR:
* Allergic reactions: * skin rash type (erythema, eczema, purpura, urticaria), * angioedema (urticaria with sudden swelling of the face and neck which can cause respiratory discomfort), * anaphylactic shock.
* Significant drop in white blood cells in the blood which may manifest as the onset or recrudescence of a fever with or without signs of infections. * Abnormal decrease in platelets in the blood which may result in bleeding from the nose or gums.
- Other side effects may occur, such as: * Drowsiness, decreased alertness. * Memory or concentration disorders, dizziness (more common in the elderly), balance disorders. * Motor incoordination, tremors. * Confusion, hallucinations. * Dry mouth, visual disturbances, urine retention, constipation, palpitations, drop in blood pressure.
- More rarely, signs of excitement (restlessness, nervousness, insomnia) may occur. If you notice any side effects not listed in this leaflet, or if any side effects get serious, please tell your doctor or pharmacist.
Storage of the drug
Keep out of the reach and sight of children. Do not use after the expiry date stated on the box. Store away from heat and light.
Composition
Dimenhydrinate: 50mg for one capsule. Excipients with known effect: sucrose.
