Description
Hyaluronic acid is a polysaccharide naturally present in different human tissues such as cartilage. It is the main constituent of synovial fluid to which it confers properties of viscosity and elasticity. In the event of traumatic and degenerative joint disorders, the quantity of hyaluronic acid decreases. The resulting loss of viscosity of the synovial fluid can lead to the onset of pain. Intra-articular injection of sodium hyaluronate can restore the viscoelastic properties of synovial fluid, reduce pain and improve joint mobility.
