Indications

It is used to treat pain and / or fever, for example headache, flu-like illness, toothache, body aches, painful periods.

This presentation is reserved for adults and children from 27 kg (ie from about 8 years old). Read the Dosage section carefully.

Dosage

In children

The dosage of paracetamol depends on the weight of the child; ages are given for information.

If you do not know the child's weight, it should be weighed to give the best dose.

Paracetamol exists in many dosages, allowing the treatment to be adapted to the weight of each child.

The recommended daily dose of paracetamol depends on the weight of the child: it is approximately 60 mg / kg per day, to be divided into 4 or 6 doses, i.e. approximately 15 mg / kg every 6 hours or 10 mg / kg every day. every 4 hours.

The usual dosage is:

For children weighing 27 to 40 kg (approximately 8 to 13 years old), the dosage is 1 capsule of 500 mg per dose, to be renewed if necessary after 6 hours, without exceeding 4 capsules per day.

For children weighing 41 to 50 kg (approximately 12 to 15 years), the dosage is 1 capsule of 500 mg per dose, to be renewed if necessary after 4 hours, without exceeding 6 capsules per day.

For adults and children weighing more than 50 kg (from about 15 years old):

The usual dosage is 1 or 2 capsules of 500 mg per dose (depending on the intensity of the pain), to be renewed if necessary after a minimum of 4 hours.

It is generally not necessary to exceed 3 g of paracetamol per day, or 6 capsules per day.

Precautions for use

Do not take other medicines containing paracetamol. You risk an overdose.

If you are taking oral anticoagulant therapy (with warfarin or vitamin K (AVK)), the use of DOLIPRANE ADULTS 1000 mg, suppository at maximum doses (4 g / day) for more than 4 days requires close monitoring of examinations. biological including in particular INR. In this case, consult your doctor.

If you receive treatment with flucloxacillin (an antibiotic) at the same time as paracetamol, you may have metabolic acidosis (too acidic blood which causes increased respiratory rate).

The toxicity of paracetamol may be increased if you take:

Drugs potentially toxic to the liver,

Medicines which promote the production of the toxic metabolite of paracetamol such as anti-epileptic medicines (phenobarbital, phenytoin, carbamazepine, topiramate),

Rifampicin (an antibiotic)

· Alcohol at the same time.
