Description
Maté is first and foremost a tree, 4 to 10 m high, cultivated since the 16th century in its countries of origin, Paraguay, Argentina and Brazil. The same name designates the traditional tonic drink, obtained by infusion of the leaves, which plays a major role in the social life of these countries. Caffeine, the main active molecule with theobromine, gives Mate its stimulating effects on the central nervous system. Other components have diuretic and draining activity. Finally, all the active ingredients would be responsible for the demonstrated ability of Maté to mobilize fat reserves. Hence its interest in the context of a slimming diet, whether or not accompanied by transient fatigue.
