Although stopping definitively is better, Nicotinell can help in: - in the case of a smoker temporary giving up, - a strategy to reduce the tobacco intake as a way to giving up altogether. How to take Nicotinell How to use Mouth. Patients must completely stop smoking during this treatment. NICOTINELL MINT 1G tablets are for heavy or very heavy smokers and those who have already failed in giving up smoking. Dosage If side effects appear after taking the 2mg tablets, take the 1mg tablets instead. Suck a tablet every time you feeling like smoking. The initial dose is one tablet every 1-2 hours. The normal dose is 8-12 tablets per day and must not exceed 15 tablets per day. How to use - suck the tablet until the taste is strong - place the tablet between the gum and the cheek - suck on the tablet again when the taste disappears - this process can be individually changed and must be repeated until the tablet has fully dissolved (approximately 30 minutes). Treatment is individual. This treatment lasts 3 months. After 3 months, you must reduce the number of tablets and start taking the 1mg tablets instead. Treatment must stop when you down to taking 1-2 tablets per day. It is generally recommended not to take the tablets after 6 months. Some ex-smokers can have a longer treatment to avoid relapses. It is recommended to seek professional advice if you are still using a nicotine substitute after 9 months. Health professionals can help smokers quit. Taking drinks such as coffee or fizzy drinks can reduce the nicotine absorption. These drinks must not be taken in the 15 minutes before taking the tablet. Quit Smoking with Nicotinell There are 2 stages: 1 st stage: Take one tablet every time you feel like smoking. The number of tablets at 1mg is normally 8-12 per day and must not exceed 30 tablets per day. This phase normally lasts for 3 months but varies depending on the individual. 2 nd phase: When you no longer have the feeling of wanting to smoke, reduce the number of tablets per day. Treatment should stop when you are only having 1-2 tablets per day. It is not recommended to take the tablets after 12 months. If you still feel like smoking during treatment or after treatment has stopped, CONSULT YOUR DOCTOR. Your doctor might advise you to combine the Nicotinell chewing gum with the Nicotinell patches. Reducing Tobacco Consumption Alternate the nicotine tablets and cigarettes. Reducing the tobacco content gradually leads to complete stop in tobacco. This should be done as early as possible in the 6 months following treatment. Length of treatment Duration is capped at 12 months. Composition of Nicotinell Mint 2mg Active ingredient (per tablet): Nicotine: 1 mg Under the form of nicotine dihydrate bitartrate. Other ingredients: Maltitol (E965), anhydrous sodium carbonate, sodium bicarbonate, polyacrylate 30%, xanthan gum, anhydrous colloidal silica, levomenthol, peppermint essential oil, aspartame (E951), magnesium stearate. Format This is in the form of a tablet to suck. Box of 144 tablets. Precautions of use of Nicotinell In the event of recent myocardial infarction, unstable or worsening angina (including Prinzmetal angina), severe heart rhythm disorder, unstable arterial hypertension or recent stroke, always recommend initially a complete cessation of tobacco consumption without nicotine replacement therapy. If these nicotine-dependent smokers fail, the use of NICOTINELL 2 mg tablets can be considered; however, since clinical safety data in these patients are limited, initiation of treatment should be done only under medical supervision. Use NICOTINELL tablets carefully in patients with arterial hypertension, stable angina, cerebrovascular disorder, occlusive peripheral arterial disease, heart failure, diabetes, hyperthyroidism or pheochromocytoma, or hepatic or renal insufficiency severe. Stopping treatment without any nicotine substitution should be recommended first for patients wanting to stop smoking. Swallowing nicotine may exacerbate symptoms in patients with oesophagitis, oral or pharyngeal inflammation, gastritis or gastric ulcer. Doses of nicotine tolerated in smoking adults can cause severe or fatal poisoning in young children (see section 4.9). Cautions linked to the excipients: This tablet contains sweeteners such as aspartame and maltitol. Each tablet contains aspartame from phenylalanine (5mg per dose); this can be dangerous for patients suffering from phenylcetonuria. This contains maltitol (E965), a source of fructose. Consequently: - patients with a fructose intolerance must not take this medication. - patients may notice a light laxative effect. Maltitol has a 2.3kcal/g. Each tablet contains 9.8mg of sodium. Contraindications Do not take NICOTINELL 1MG tablet in the following cases: - if you do not smoke or smoke occasionally. - if you are allergic to one of its components. Pregnancy and breast feeding Pregnancy: It is very important to stop smoking during pregnancy for you and the baby. Nicotine substitute treatments during pregnancy need medical consent. You must consult a health professional during pregnancy if you have tobacco withdrawal symptoms. Breast feeding: If you smoke a lot or are not thinking about stopping you should not breast-feed your child. The use of this medication is not recommended during breast-feeing as nicotine passes into human milk. However if you want to stop smoking and breast-feed your child, seek medical advice first.
