Therapeutic indications
Zinc acts on the inflammatory component of acne: macrocystic and/or nodular inflammatory acne.
Directions for use
The daily dose is 2 ampoules per day - which corresponds to 30 mg of zinc metal - taken in the morning on an empty stomach with a glass of water. This dosage of 2 phials per day is maintained for 3 months, then reduced to one phial per day.
Drug interactions
Do not use in combination with tetracyclines because of the risk of chelation in the gastrointestinal tract with reduced absorption. For the same reasons, the combination with the following drugs should be avoided: alkaline gastric dressings, calcium or iron based drugs. Due to interference with intestinal absorption, foods with a high phytic acid content should be excluded from the meals following a dose (e.g. wholemeal bread, soya beans, corn grains).
Precautions for use
In order to obtain maximum absorption, the drug should be taken at a distance from meals.
Possible side effects
Gastrointestinal manifestations may be observed, mainly gastric, they are of low intensity and transient.
Overdose
The probability of acute intoxication is nil, so any treatment with calcium EDTA or phytic acid salts is reported only as a reminder.
Storage conditions
Store at a temperature below 25°C.
