Indication
The stimulant laxative Dulcolax 5mg is recommended in the event of occasional constipation. It increases the secretions and motricity of the intestine. Constipation can cause dilation of the veins in the rectum, which increases the risk of haemorrhoidal attacks. Constipation is also one of the main causes of anal fissures.
Directions for use
The tablets should be swallowed without chewing. Caution: vomiting or stomach pumping immediately after taking Dulcolax coated tablets may minimise or cancel the absorption of the medicine.
- Adults: 1 or 2 tablets maximum per day. - In children over 6 years of age: the use of an irritant laxative is exceptional and only on medical prescription: 1 tablet per day for two to ten days. THIS MEDICINE WAS GIVEN TO YOU PERSONALLY IN A SPECIFIC SITUATION: - IT MAY NOT BE SUITABLE IN ANOTHER CASE. - DO NOT GIVE IT TO ANYONE ELSE. Take in the evening (effect 10 hours later) or in the morning on an empty stomach (effect 5 hours later). Duration of treatment Do not use for longer than 10 days without medical advice.
Contraindications
Never take DULCOLAX 5 mg, enteric-coated tablet in the following cases: - known allergy to any of the components of the product, - severe dehydration (particularly in the elderly), - in children under 6 years of age, - certain diseases of the intestine and colon (rectocolitis and other inflammatory diseases), - abdominal pain of undetermined origin, which may be a sign of a more serious disease, - chronic constipation. This medicine MUST NOT IN GENERAL BE USED (unless your doctor advises otherwise) in combination with: amiodarone, bretylium, disopyramide, quinidinics, sotalol, astemizole, bepridil, erythromicin IV, halofantrine, pentamidine, sultopride, terfenadrine, vincamine. Pregnancy and breast-feeding
This medicine should not be used during pregnancy or while breast-feeding. If you are pregnant or breast-feeding, ask your doctor or pharmacist for advice before taking any medicine.
Precautions for use
Regular use may lead to : - dependence, - serious intestinal problems, - loss of mineral salts, particularly hypokalaemia, which may cause serious heart rhythm problems. IF IN DOUBT, DO NOT HESITATE TO ASK YOUR DOCTOR OR PHARMACIST FOR ADVICE. Dulcolax may interact with medicines likely to cause torsades de pointes. Tell your pharmacist or doctor if you are taking corticosteroids (except for local treatment), diuretics or medicines containing digoxin or digitoxin (medicines based on cardiotonic glycosides) or amphotericin B. DO NOT USE FOR LONGER THAN 10 DAYS WITHOUT MEDICAL ADVICE.
Composition
The active substance is (for one coated tablet): Bisacodyl: 5.0 mg The other components are: Lactose monohydrate, anhydrous maize starch, soluble starch, glycerol (85%), magnesium stearate. Coating: magnesium stearate, sucrose, gum arabic, titanium dioxide, talc, macrogol 6000, eudragit L 100, eudragit S 100, castor oil, yellow iron oxide, white beeswax, carnauba wax, shellac.
