Movicol Soluble Powder – relieves constipation – 20 Sachets (Lemon Flavour)

Product Description Can be used for: – symptomatic treatment of constipation in adults; and – treatment of faecal impaction in adults. Faecal impaction is defined as the accumulation of faecal matter in the rectum over several days without evacuation. How to Use Method of Administration For oral use. Dissolve contents of sachet in a glass of water. Dosage – For adult use only. – 1 or 2 sachets per day, taken in the morning; dissolved contents drunk preferably in one go. – If you are elderly, you generally should not need to take more than 1 sachet per day. – Movicol takes effect between 24 and 48 hours after consumption. – If used to relieve faecal impaction, the recommended daily intake is 8 sachets, split into 2 doses of 4 sachets taken in the morning and evening. Take doses with 500 ml of water, drunk over a period of between 1 and 3 hours. – Once accumulated faeces is fully evacuated from the body, discontinue use. – Thereafter, take measures to minimise the risk of recurrence. Ingredients Per suppository: Active ingredients: Macrogol 3350: 13.1250 g Sodium bicarbonate: 0.1785 g Potassium chloride: 0.0466 g Sodium chloride: 0.3507 g Other ingredients: Lemon flavour, acesulfame potassium Packaging This medicine is made as a soluble powder for liquid solution and sold in packs of 20 sachets. Precautions for Use Do not use for an extended period without first consulting your doctor. Occasional Constipation Infrequent bouts of constipation may be due to recent changes in scenery (e.g. because you've been travelling). Medication can be useful if used for a brief period. Recent constipation that cannot be explained by lifestyle changes, or which is accompanied by pain, fever or bloating, should be checked by your doctor. Chronic Constipation Persistent constipation may be caused by: – bowel disease, which must be checked by a doctor; or – an upset in regular bowel function due to diet and/or lifestyle. Possible treatments include: – eating more plant and plant-derived foods (e.g. fresh vegetables, raw vegetables, wholemeal bread and fruit); – drinking more water and fruit juice; – getting more physical exercise (e.g. by walking, or playing sports); – re-training the defecation reflex; and – (in some cases), playing sounds while eating and drinking. Contains polyethylene glycol. Consumption of this substance has occasionally been reported to have caused allergic reactions (in the form of rashes, hives and oedema). Contains sodium (190 mg per sachet). Use with caution if you are on a sodium-free or low-sodium diet. Contains potassium (26.38 mg per sachet). Contra-indications Do NOT use if: – you have certain diseases of the small or large intestines; or – you have abdominal (stomach) pain. If you are pregnant or breast-feeding: Movicol can be used safely during both pregnancy and breast-feeding. However, consult your doctor or pharmacist before using any form of medicine.
