Product Description Laxative for rectal application. Eductyl effervescent suppositories work by stimulating the body's defecation reflex. Recommended for relieving certain types of constipation, as well as preparing the rectum for medical examination (rectoscopy). Dosage1 suppository per day. If rectum is to be examined, take several minutes beforehand. Ingredients Per suppository: Active Ingredients Potassium hydrogen tartrate: 0.5750 g Sodium bicarbonate: 0.3500 g Other Ingredients Soya lecithin, talc, solid semi-synthetic glycerides (Witepsol H-15) Packaging This medicine is produced as an effervescent suppository and sold in packs of 12. Precautions for Use – If you have suffered an anal fissure, consult your doctor. – Keep out of reach of children. WarningsDo not use for a prolonged period without first consulting your doctor. Occasional Constipation – Infrequent bouts of constipation may be due to recent changes in scenery (e.g. because you've been travelling). Medication can be useful if used for a brief period. – Recent constipation that cannot be explained by lifestyle changes, or which is accompanied by pain, fever or bloating, should be checked by your doctor. Chronic Constipation Persistent constipation may be caused by: – bowel disease, which must be checked by a doctor; or – an upset in regular bowel function due to diet and/or lifestyle. Possible treatments include: – eating more plant and plant-derived foods (e.g. fresh and raw vegetables, wholemeal bread and fruit); – drinking more water and fruit juice; – getting more physical exercise (e.g. by walking, or playing sports); – re-training the defecation reflex; and – (in some cases), playing sounds while eating and drinking. Precautions for Use – Treatment of constipation in children focuses on lifestyle and dietary modification – in particular, adding the correct quantity of water to baby milk, preparing food rich in vegetables and supplementing the diet with fruit juice. – Do not administer suppositories to your child without first consulting your doctor. Regular use may impede the body's defecation reflex. Contra-indications Do NOT use if your child: – is are allergic to any of this medicine's ingredients; or – is experiencing severe, unexplained abdominal pain.
