Indication This drug contains an antihistamine; oxomemazine. This drug soothes dry coughs and cough irritations for adults and children older than 2 years during the evening and night. How to take this drug Suitable for adults and, children over the age of 2 years old. Orally. Use the measuring cup. Dosage Suitable for adults and children over 40 kg (from the age of 12 years old). 10 ml 4 times per day. The daily dose according to a child’s weight (1ml of syrup per kg per day): · Child between 13-20kg (between 2-6 years) -5ml per dose 2-3 times per day. · Child between 20-30 kg (between 6-10 years old): 10 ml 2-3 times per day. · Child between 30-40 kg (between 10-12 years old): 10 ml 3-4 times a day. Frequency of dose Doses can de repeated if necessary every 4 hours. Due to the sedative effect of oxomemazine it is advisable to take this medication in the evening. Other ingredients: Glycerol, liquid maltitol, potassium acesfulfame, citric acid monohydrate, sodium citrate, sodium benzoate, caramel flavouring (ref. SN640421 containing vanillin, 3-hydroxybutanone (acetone), glycol propylene), purified water. Format This drug is in the form of a syrup. 150 ml vial. Precautions for use In case of long-term liver or kidney disease, CONSULT YOUR DOCTOR before changing the dosage. This drug needs medical guidance: · for elderly patients: * constipation, vertigo or drowsiness, * prostate problems. · in case of asthma or gastroesophageal reflux for a child, · in case of severe heart disease or epilepsy, CONSULT YOUR DOCTOR before taking this antihistamine. Avoid alcohol consumption or medication containing alcohol. It is advisable to avoid sun and UVA exposure during treatment. This drug should be used with caution due to risk of sedation. Combining this with other medication is not recommended. This drug is not recommended for patients with a fructose intolerance (rare hereditary illness). IF IN DOUBT DO NOT HESITATE TO CONSULT YOUR DOCTOR OR PHARMACIST FOR ADVICE. Special warnings: Coughing is a symptom that occurs from a variety of problems: respiratory infections, bronchitis, flu, allergy, asthma, whooping cough, irritation, etc... Tobacco consumption increases the aggravation and duration of a cough. If a fever appears or persists, along with (or not) signs of infection (angina), paleness or sweating, it is recommended to consult your doctor. Do not use this drug to treat a wet cough. This cough is a natural defence mechanism necessary for bronchial secretion. If the cough becomes wet accompanied with blockage, phlegm or fever, seek advice from your doctor. In the case of long-term chronic bronchial or lung disease along with phlegm, medical advice is essential. It is not advisable to not combine a decongestant drug of bronchial secretions (expectorate, mucolytic). Contraindications Do not take OXOMEMAZINE 0.33g/ml syrup sweetened with potassium acesulfame in the following cases: · For a newborn (under 2 years of age), · Hypersensitivity to one of its components in particular antihistamines, · Previous history of agranulocytosis (fall in white blood cells), · Difficulty urinating from prostatic problems or other; · Certain types of glaucoma (increased pressure in the eye). · Combined with other medication (cabergolin, quinagolid). Interactions with other drugs Combining this with other sedative medication is not recommended due to the increased sedative effect from this drug. This medication should not be taken alongside cabergolin or quinagolide. This medication should not be taken with alcoholic drinks or medication containing alcohol. Talk to your doctor or pharmacist if you take or have recently taken any other drug, including any non-prescription drugs. Pregnancy and breast feeding Pregnancy: This drug should not be taken during the first trimester of pregnancy unless with doctor’s consent. If you discover that you’re pregnant during the treatment, consult your doctor who is the only person who can judge whether the drug should be continued. However, drug abuse during the end of pregnancy can cause harmful effects on the baby. Therefore, it is important to always seek advice from your doctor before taking this drug and to never take more than the recommended dose. Breast feeding: This drug passes into breast milk. Due to the sedative contents in this drug, avoid taking it during breast feeding. Consult your doctor or pharmacist before taking any drugs. Side effects Like all drugs OXOMEMAZINE syrup can cause side effects (this will not affect everyone). For certain side effects YOU MUST IMMEDIATELY STOP TREATMENT AND INFORM YOUR DOCTOR. * Allergic reactions: - Skin reactions (erythema, eczema, purpura, urticaria), - Angioedema (urticaria followed by swelling of the face and neck leading to breathing problems), - Anaphylactic shock. - Skin sensitisation from the effect of the sun - Significant decrease in white blood cells in the blood which may be due to the onset of fever with or without signs of infection. * Abnormal decrease of platelets in the blood resulting in nosebleeds or bleeding of the gums. · More frequent side effects: - Drowsiness, decrease in vigilance from the beginning of treatment, - Difficulties in remembering or concentration, vertigo, - Lack of coordination, shivers. - Confusion, hallucination. - Dry mouth, visual impairment, urinary retention, constipation, palpitations, fall in blood pressure. · In rare cases, signs of excitement (agitation, nervousness, insomnia) can arise. If you notice side effects that are not mentioned here, or if certain side effects become more severe, please consult your doctor or pharmacist. Symptoms and instructions in case of overdose Consult your doctor or pharmacist immediately. Storage conditions Before opening: no specific storage precautions. After opening: Store in a place below 25°C and use within 6 months.
