Description
German Chamomile Essential Oil is distinguished by its very dark and opaque blue color. Characteristic of the flower, it has sweet, bitter, herbaceous notes.
It is obtained through the steam distillation of its fresh flowering tops, which were manually aerated just after harvest. Its deep blue appearance comes from the natural transformation of azulene into chamazulene during distillation.
German Chamomile Essential Oil is composed of sesquiterpene hydrocarbons (including (E) beta-farnesene and chamazulene).
Indications
German Chamomile essential oil is known to be anti-inflammatory, pain relieving and antispasmodic.

Botany specifications
German Chamomile essential oil, also called Chamomile, is a flower belonging to the Asteraceae family. Native to Europe and Western Asia, it is frequently encountered along roads and fields in Central Europe, hence its name German Chamomile. In Germanic and Nordic mythologies, German chamomile was one of the "nine sacred plants" that the sky god Odin gave to men. The Egyptians used it against fever. It is very different from its cousin Roman Chamomile, called noble by its very particular composition, properties and color. Indeed, its indigo blue color and its strong herbaceous and honeyed smell offer both visual and olfactory intensity. Its other name “Matricaria recutita” comes from the Latin “matri” meaning “mother” because it was used to treat what were called “women’s diseases”.
Properties
German Chamomile essential oil is used to relieve abdominal pain, particularly premenstrual syndrome, muscle pain and skin irritation.
German Chamomile essential oil is used cutaneously, diluted in a calophyll or hazelnut vegetable oil. German chamomile essential oil is highly concentrated in alpha bisabolol and chamazulene and beta farnesene. These molecules limit allergic reactions such as itching, skin irritations and asthma attacks. They inhibit the release of histamine, responsible for itchy skin during an allergic reaction. Chamazulene, which gives the blue color, reduces the body's inflammatory reactions by inhibiting the formation of leukotrienes B4, these molecules involved in triggering inflammation. Bisabolol is a molecule prized by the cosmetic industry for its soothing and softening effects.
