PRECAUTIONS FOR USE
This medicine should not be used during pregnancy or breastfeeding. Alopexy 2% is not suitable for sudden hair loss following an illness or drug treatment (chemotherapy) because it will not be effective. It should also not be used on any other part of the body (beard, chest, etc.) than the scalp. Minoxidil will not be used on scalp that is irritated, has irritation, redness, inflammation, or pain. It should not be applied at the same time as other potentially irritating dermatological treatments such as retinoic acid, betametasone dipropionate or anthralin which can also modify the quantity of minoxidil passing into the general circulation. If Alopexy 2% is misused, minoxidil may enter the bloodstream and may cause cardiac side effects such as chest pain, a drop in blood pressure, tachycardia (accelerated heart rate), but also dizziness or light-headedness, sudden, unexplained weight gain, or swelling of the hands and feet. If you have a history of heart disease, medical advice is necessary before initiating treatment with minoxidil. The scalp treated with Alopexy 2% should not be exposed to the sun: protection with a hat is therefore necessary. In case of accidental contact with the eye or a wound, rinse with plenty of water. If irritation or pain persists, do not hesitate to seek advice from your pharmacist or your doctor. An allergy to one of the compounds present (γ-Cyclodextrin, 96% ethanol, propylene glycol, purified water) in the Alopexy 2% formula is a contraindication to its use. Packaging: 3 vials of 60 ml or 3 months of treatment.
Pregnancy
There have not been adequate controlled studies in pregnant women. Animal studies have highlighted a risk for the fetus at exposure levels much higher than those expected in humans. A low, although unlikely, risk of harm to the fetus is possible in humans (see section 5.3, Preclinical safety data).
Feeding with milk
Systemically absorbed minoxidil is excreted in breast milk. Therefore, topical minoxidil should only be used during pregnancy or breastfeeding if the benefit to the mother outweighs the potential risk to the fetus or breastfed child.
