Indications of Macrogol Sachets This is symptomatic treatment for constipation for adults and children over 8 years. MACROGOL 4000 SANDOZ 10g is temporary treatment for constipation, for no longer than 3 months for children and combined with hygiene factors. How to take this drug Orally. Dissolve the contents of the sachet in a glass of water. Dosage and how to use Suitable for adults and children from the age of 8 years old. The dosage is 1-2 sachets per day taken at the same time in the morning. The daily dose can be adapted depending on the effects: it can be 1 sachet every 2 days (for children) to 2 sachets per day. Children: treatment should not exceed 3 months. Composition Active Ingredient: Macrogol 4000: 10.000 g Per single-dose sachet. Other ingredients: Saccharine sodium & orange-grapefruit flavouring*. *Composition of the orange-grapefruit flavouring: orange and grapefruit essential oils, citral, aldehyde acetic, linalol, ethylbutyrate, alpha terpinol, octanal, cis 3 hexenaol, buthyldroxyanisole (E320), maltodextrin, gum Arabic (E414), sorbitol (E420), sulphur anhydride (E220). Format This drug is in powder form for oral solution in a single-dose sachet. Box of 20 sachets. Precautions for use Special warnings: Be careful when taking MACROGOL 4000 SANDOZ 10 g power sachets: Consult your doctor before giving this medication to your child. After 3 months of treatment, a clinical test will need to be carried out by your doctor. Due to the sorbitol content, this medication should not be taken if you have a fructose intolerance (hereditary metabolic disease). In case of diarrhoea, patients with a hydro-electrolytic disorder will need to be monitored. This medication contains macrogol (= P.E.G.= polyethyleneglycol). Very rare cases of allergic reactions have been reported with products containing macrogol (spots, urticaria, odema). This drug contains sulphur anhydride and can bring about severe allergic reactions and breathing difficulties. This drug contains sorbitol. This drug is not recommended for patients with a sorbitol intolerance (rare hereditary illness). Specific precautions Not applicable. Contraindications Do not use MACROGOL 4000 SANDOZ 10 g power sachets: - in case of an allergy (spots, urticaria, odema) to macrogol or one of the other ingredients - in case of colon or intestine illnesses (rectocolitis, Crohn’s disease) - in case of abdominal pain or intestinal occlusion - in case of digestive perforation or risk of a perforation. Interactions with other drugs Taking other medication Consult your doctor or pharmacist if you take or have taken another drug, even if it was not a prescription drug. Pregnancy and breast feeding This drug can only be used during pregnancy following advice from your doctor. If you discover that you’re pregnant during the treatment, consult your doctor who is the only person who can judge whether the drug should be continued. This medication can be taken whilst breast-feeding. Consult your doctor or pharmacist before taking any drugs. Side effects Like all drugs MACROGOL 4000 SANDOZ 10 g powder sachet drinkable solution can cause side effects (this will not affect everyone). - diarrhoea - abdominal pain, bloating - nausea, vomiting - rare cases of allergic reactions such as spots, uritcaria and angioedema Taking too much can lead to diarrhoea, dosage therefore will need to be reduced or treatment temporary stopped. Diarrhoea can cause perianal pain. If you notice side effects that are not mentioned here, or if certain side effects become more severe, please consult your doctor or pharmacist.
